Responsibilities

Verizon Internal Audit has established a Capital Project Audit discipline within the Internal Audit Organization. This Capital Project Audit practice is an enterprise-wide effort which includes: Wireless Network and Retail, Corporate Technology, Global Real Estate, Verizon Enterprise Solutions, and Consumer & Mass Market areas with respect to critical capital infrastructure and construction deployment. The Capital Infrastructure & Global Construction (CI&GC) Audit Team serves as an objective advisor to the Business, focusing on discrete elements across the capital project life-cycle.

The CI&GC team focuses on (1) New construction engagements and (2) Major capital investments, upgrades and retrofits. The goal of the Capital Infrastructure & Global Construction Audit Team is to:

Build a global capital audit practice and collaborate with the Business to improve governance, risk management, controls and compliance practices in capital improvement projects during all phases of construction.

An Internal Audit Consultant uses a broad understanding of company functions and business units to perform risk assessment and annual plan development this includes but is not limited to:

  • Identify control and business risks for audits and identifies project efficiencies.
  • Plan and complete audits / advisory reviews, including on-site supervision of audit teams. Manage cost effective, comprehensive and complex risk-based audits, within time and expense budgets for one to two audits concurrently.
  • Review, analyze, edit, critique, and approve audit programs, working papers, and reports; monitor the activities of auditors; provides direction and feedback on a regular basis.
  • Define specific project scope and approach; and plans and completes controls advisory projects.
  • Keeping the audit team informed on changes to scope, schedule, etc. Communicates issues to business management.
  • Serve as a Point of Contact for assigned functions within a BU. Communicate with senior level management on sensitive issues.

The CI&GC candidate would be a subject matter expert in the field of capital and construction contract management; mastering the standard industry capital project management lifecycle including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closing phases. As a subject matter expert, the CI&GC candidate would independently and comprehensively lead an audit team to properly plan and execute internal audits and advisory assignments.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30-35%.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • MBA.
  • CPA, CISA, CIA and / or PMP preferred.
  • Two or more years of audit or other managerial experience or;
  • Two or more years of finance, accounting, information systems or operations experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Broad knowledge of different business groups to evaluate and assess significance of problems identified during the course of an audit.
